President Obama is expected to announce the cancelation of NASA’s return mission to the moon this week

Millions have already been invested in this project. If we are ever to develop a Space Based Solar Electricity System we will need a manned presence in space.

Green energy is available from a space based in unlimited amounts. Oil’s primary use would become lubrication. Millions of dollars sent abroad to buy oil could be sent putting American’s to work on a SBSES.

The skills and technology we will develop from returning to the moon will be critical to building a SBSES.

How do feel about a Space Based Solar Electricity System?

  1. Unfortunately, at a time when our nation is so far in debt, like any family or state, we have to start making hard choices. Space exploration is awesome and often developes new technologies and discoveries. (Like Defense-- but at what a cost !). However, if we're looking at spending cuts that could hurt families and old people (SS, Medicare) -- then space programs are low-hanging fruit.

Reminds me a bit of the Bush administration killing of a satellite program that would measure the Earth's temperature from space. Not very expensive, but Bush feared that the measurements might reveal an "inconvenient truth" about global warming. Then he redacts all the global warming references in his own EPA report. This is where the trumping of ideology over facts can become deadly.

  2. It is cheaper to measure the earth's temperature from the ground.

The global warming alarmists are imploding upon themselves . PBS and NPR may find it convenient to ignore 15 years of declining temperatures and the scientist that are admitting to using bad data. I will be happy to provide names and sources.

As you might say : "Even a plumber gets it."

  3. There is an incredible consensus among 1000's of scientists that global warming is not only real but is caused by mans' activities.
If there are a few errors about the speed of melting glaciers, among 1000's of truths, this does not disprove anything.
We've just had the warmest winter on record. Watch the Olympics, take a gander at the snowpack when you go skiing, plant a garden-- USE YOUR SENSES. Or listen to Rush Limbaugh, Fox and the other right wing sources that believe the earth is 6000 years old and that any intelligence is just a left-wing conspiracy.
What good is having a brain if you keep on listening to an echo chamber of disinformation ?
Did the entire world go to Copenhagen based on a false premise ? Just where are you getting your data ? If you refuse to believe something, regardless of any facts to the contrary, then why bother thinking at all ?
Keep on believing that the train pummeling towards you doesn't exist--until it splatters you out of existance. This is the right-wing anti-intellectualism ideology. I've seen this in religious cults--only listen to those that support your beliefs, demonize any source to the contrary- suspend ration thinking and replace it with fear and indoctrination.
Point to "enemys" like liberals, gays, immigrants,terrorists-- stoke the fear and tell the people to listen to what you say is the truth-- all other sources (like NPR and PBS) are "the enemy" and not to be believed.
Not to rant- but the right wing conservatives are pathetic. They would never survive the most basic science class.Rather than looking at the data and , because of its' deadly seriousness, demands continued research and rapid action-- instead they just write it off as some conspiracy.
I can accept the possibility that nothing is 100%, but that we must act if the preponderence of evidence points to deadly consequences.
But the conservatives are 100% sure that global warming is not man-made. How can they be so sure ? These same people, 20-30 years ago, were denying global warming existed at all. Today, the temperature readings from around the planet have become impossible to ignore--so they refuse that it is man-made, until that too will become irrefutable in light of overwhelming evidence. But by then, if not already; it will be too late to do anything about it

  4. Your arrogance is amusing. You appear to believe any one who questions the left is "intellectually challenged" or as Ron Emanuel would say "F---ing retarded."

Is your angry, and rude young friend afraid to blog here?

Liberals want to be measured by their intentions. Most liberals are well intended but horribly misinformed. When measured by their results the truth comes out. We conservatives pay attention to results.

The Space program takes less than 1% of the federal budget. Eliminating it will not even move the budget needle.

  5. Why won't the government look at the problem of creating jobs to pull the economy out of its langor by assessing the options based on net present value? The space program produces far more jobs - and of the kind we want in the country - than the drivel that's been put out there so far. Now is the time to be INCREASING spending on such programs, not eliminating them.
